The good:
- It has a screen, unlike the old Squeezebox remote.
The bad:
- The scroll wheel feels awful, a far cry from iPod quality.
- Scrolling the artists list takes forever, as the remote lacks the iPod’s mode where it switches to scrolling alphabet letters rather than songs.
- No USB charging, but rather a proprietary dock.
The ugly:
- “Please wait”: It can take 1 minute or more to lower volume and other basic tasks. This is the only remote I have seen that actually has to boot!
- Search interface: Super painful compared to input on the iPod Touch.
- The iPod Touch does everything this remote does (with iPeng or Squeemote) and a universe of other things, is infinitely more elegant and 70 $ cheaper.
Also, if you have an iPhone or iPod Touch: Ditch the Squeezebox altogether. Put your music on the handheld and stream using the BlackBerry Bluetooth Gateway. Much more responsive and 120$ cheaper.
