This is a very unique yet enjoyable book. The author writes to the reader as a personal friend, invited to accompany her on a 10-day vacation rambling through the Galloway region of Scotland (the setting for some of her novels). The author draws upon her extensive knowledge and research of the region, as well as her personal travels, to take the reader along on a detailed journey, including packing bags, airline flights, car rentals, road conditions, language idioms, money, etc. on an imaginary trip through the sights and attractions of the area. The reader gets to vicariously meet people and see sights along the way, including experiencing jet lag, attending a local church, eating in wayside nooks, shopping, etc. and encounter Scotland “off the beaten path” as only a well-traveled companion could reveal the area. The book is enhanced with numerous evocative illustrations of the sights/scenes encountered, as well as a map of the area so you can follow along.

I greatly enjoyed this book – for some pleasant hours, I felt like I WAS in Scotland. The “journey” was all too short, and I hope that this book might start a new genre, not only from this author but from others…
My Heart s in

I originally began wearing a pedometer during the McDonald’s Happy Meal promotion that came with a pedometer a couple of years ago. I bought this one as an “upgrade” after seeing it recommended in Consumer Reports. The big advantage to this one is that I can put it in my fanny pack which is good since I don’t usually wear a belt. Also there is less danger of losing it. That way I can just keep it there and forget about it. I can also put it in my purse and keep it close by in business or formal situations where it would be considered too “casual” to wear. I have changed the battery once (in a year). The battery costs about $5.00. It is well worth the money and I use it all the time. I have a goal of working up to 10,000 steps as often as possible and right now am doing that much about twice a week. Perhaps the only thing that I would do differently is to purchase the software to keep track of it. It also has a watch function so I use that a lot too.

One problem I have run into occasionally is that some events don’t allow cell phones and they think this is a cell phone so I have to check it. Then not only can I not count my steps but I don’t have a watch either. I hope in the future they can improve it so as not to run into this problem. However, this doesn’t happen very often.
Stories for the Heart

I first read “The Catcher…” while in High School as a required reading assignment.
My impression of this story was so great that I started and finished in one go. It is the book that got me interested in reading. As a result, I purchased this book as a gift to my grandson who happens to be an advid reader at the age of 5 years.
Messages From The Heart

We need more books like this! Although it is a work of fiction, this could be any of us. How often do we look at someone (in passing, or someone we know) and wonder if they know Jesus? Do we dare take the next step and talk to them about Jesus? Yes, we all should. There is a wonderful boldness to this story that I know I could use. After reading this book, I continue to ponder the story. God is moving and our hearts need to be ready. I thank the author for this wonderful book.

Heart Care for Life

Rowena is an independent woman. When her grandfather passes away, she finds herself being handed the duties of her grandfather. She reads a diary that belonged to her father and figures out that she is supposed to smooth things over with her family’s rivals. Rowena is hot tempered, especially when conversing with the opposite sex. Will she be able to do what she is destined to or will her pride stand in her way?

I loved the dialogue in this book! Rowena reminds me a lot of myself and I was able to picture everything that was happening to her as though it was happening to me.

Enchanted Heart

I’m not sure what I enjoyed the most – the photos, the recipes or the stories. Like so many people, I’ve had a love of cooking and fear of baking… until Baking From The Heart. While thumbing through my new copy, I stopped at Mohn Kickle, a poppy seed cookie I grew up eating but hadn’t heard of or thought about in 20 years. As I read the introductory story by chef Lora Brody, I couldn’t stop laughing as she shares hilarious stories about her parent’s culinary skills. I decided to bake something that my 2 1/2 year old would enjoy and settled on David Lebovitz’s peppermint patties. We loved them – as did everyone in my office the next day. I felt like such a big shot, making candy at virtually my first baking attempt. I hit a few bumps along the way but in the end, they looked and tasted delicious. Now I want to try literally every recipe in the book starting with the Flan Almendrado.

Baking from the Heart

This scale is absolutely accurate and easy to read. Also, I must use a cane, and it is extremely easy to get on. I also appreciate the fact that it uses easy to procure batteries–not the 12 volt like my old, unreadable scale. Love this one, and will highly recommend it to friends and family.
