Also, the way the seat is so far above the handle bars, or Mongoose Montana Womens Mountain Bike seems that way, makes my wrists hurt.

Good Bike. I thank Amazon for the prompt delivery. I bought this bike for my wife. Although I assembled this bike myself, I took it to a bike shop for final tuning. It is in perfect shape now.She has not used it much but she is happy with it. I will surely recommend it.

Good Product for the Price. Was looking for an inexpensive bike to do some cardio and get in shape, so I selected the Mongoose Montana. I haven’t rode a bike in about 10 years so I figured that this would be a great starter bike. The bike came fairly quick and after having it adjusted at the bike shop, I was riding in no time. I take the bike out almost every other morning and haven’t had a problem yet. I even ride off trail in a neighborhood park and find the ride to be great. The breaks tend to be a little tight but that’s an assembly issue. Overall, this is a great bike for the price.

Definitely a great bike for the price!. For [...] you can’t beat this bike! Granted, it’s not near as light as the bike shop mountain bikes, but it’s also a fifth of the price. I couldn’t find another bike for under [...] that had dual suspension AND dual disc-brakes. Now, the partial assembly could have been better, though. Out of the box, the front fork was on backwards, and the derailleurs were totally out of tune! But the front fork was as easy as loosening the nut and turning Mongoose Status 26-Inch Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike around, and the local bike shop tuned the derailleurs for [...] so I now have an awesome bike for right at [...] Overall a great purchase!

Not bad for price…but plan on doing some work. I bought this bike new from my local store on sale for $180 dollars. I figured a full suspension, aluminum frame bike with disc brakes for $180 was a deal I couldn’t pass up. I wish I would have.

After taking it home and doing an initial setup on the bike (adjusting suspension droop, brake pad clearances, etc.) I took it out for the first ride. I use the bike primarily as a commuter, but take it to the local trails on the weekend. The bike preforms as expected on the streets, but the rear suspension was a little weak for my liking. The bob while pedaling hard uphill takes away a lot of your power to the ground.

After my first ride, I got the bike home and did a second check on it (mind you, this is still the first day). I am meticulous with cleaning and checking my bikes after every off-road session. I found the rear derailler was loose. I took it off of the bike and found that the bike shop that assembled the bike did not use any lock-tite on the bolt. This is not a problem with the bike, but the bike shop. I decided to check all of the fasteners on the bike…same problem.

I have now had the bike for about 5 months and it is serving me pretty well as a daily commuter. I have found that as long as I do the maintenance on the bike, everything is holding up pretty well. The problems that others have had with deraillers not working and brake rub have not been an issue for me.

So you may be thinking, why did I rate the bike a two? Pretty simple, really. The weight of the bike and quality of the components leave something to be desired. I have had to replace all of the bushings on the rear linkage twice in the six months that I have owned the bike. Since I have only gone off-road with it three times, this is more often than I should have to replace them. The rear seat post has a tendency to slip down slowly no matter how much you tighten the clamp. I replaced the seat post and clamp and now have no problems. The seat that comes with the bike is uncomfortable at best. I changed that to a Sette saddle (not one of the big cushy seats) for a more comfortable ride. The rear wheel hub is weak. If you buy this bike, plan on upgrading that as quickly as possible.

Even though I only paid $180 for this bike, I have now invested well over $300 in maintenance and/or repairs. I would have been better off getting the Cannondale hard tail they had on sale for $350. Oh well, better luck next time.

Fantastic bike!. Well, after a long time of researching various bikes, I bought this one. I couldn’t find another bike that looked as good, or had as many of the same features as this bike, at the same price point. The bike came mainly assembled, took about an hour to assemble fully and adjust everything to my liking. Took it for a ride and everything works perfectly.

The bike looks like I spent a helluva lot more than I did too. Only thing is the seat is a bit uncomfortable, I’ll be replacing it soon, but you can say that about most bikes.

Can’t say enough bad things about this bike.. I ride about 5 miles a day from home to school and back. Very flat, good weather, easy ride, and I’m not huge or anything. I figured a cheap bike like this would last a year, and then I’d upgrade. I’ve had Mongoose Montana Mens Mountain Bike a month, and there have been a number of problems.

In general, the parts are flimsy. The seat post clamp won’t prop up the seat. The handlebars are loose because the bolt that holds them comes loose. The bike feels like it’s off balance. Also, while making sharp turns, my toes scrape the front tire. Biggest problem – pedals made of really weak plastic that actually ripped. Drivetrain, shifters, and brakes OK so far, but I’m not expecting much.

Do NOT buy this bike if you expect to ride it on a daily basis. Spend 2X or 3X more and get better quality components.

You Get What You Paid For. Sometimes being frugal about certain items is not worth in the long run. Take this bike as an example. Took it out of the box and, at first, looks very promising. After placing all the parts together (handle bar, front tire and seat) took it for its first spin. First thing I noticed that it wasn’t shifting (rear) correctly. Brake pads (front and back) need adjustments to make them not rub against the rims. Took it back home right away and discovered that the rear derailleur is bent – signs of poor/very cheap quality. With my bare hands, straigthened the rear component and took it for a spin again and after adjusting the brakes. I got the rear gear to the highest number but couldn’t make it go to the lowest number – more adjustments. Despite being Shimano components, I was very disappointed of the low quality parts. So just expect to make quite a few adjustments with this bike. If you are not mechanically inclined, try asking your friends or make some new ones who are, otherwise, to the bike shop it goes.$$$

Not the best, but good warranty. <EDIT ( 02.2009): My suspension fork wasn't properly functioning. I called the warranty department and ask for a replacement. They shipped a new suspension fork the same day! And I received it in 3 days! (FedEx) This is not a high quality bike, but actually the company has a great warranty! They were really helpful. I could put 3.5 stars if it was actually possible.>

Ok, I must say that I am totally disappointed with this product. First of all, I had to reassembly front brakes, because they were not working properly. Then, I realized that spokes on the front and rear wheels must be adjusted as they were wobbly! Luckily, I knew how to do that, but took me about 1 hours to make it work and to true the wheels. Then, tried to ride it; guess what! the gears needed adjustment! I also did that, and thought that it is now OK. I use the bike to commute, 10 miles a day. I rode it like 70 miles (on the main road) and the left pedal is now broken! I am 165 lbs, and I am not riding aggressively. The pedals are really bad quality!

I also had problems with the handlebars. Couple of times they became loose during the ride, and I had to stop and fix it. I am really lucky for that didn’t cause an accident!

Make yourself a favor, instead of buying this bike [...] for all the adjustments, pay more and get something better than this!

I know that it’s cheap, but it is not free! And cheap doesn’t mean that exaggerated low quality product! I would definitely return it If I could!

Edit: I think I have now problems with the fork: the slider moves back and forth, even though the stanchion is stationary (I am not talking about the normal up-down movement of the suspension!). I hope it will not fall apart when riding!

Pacific Evolution Boy’s Mountain Bike. Pacific Evolution Boy’s Mountain Bike (20-Inch Wheels)

I ordered this bike for my grandson who lives in another state. The shipping time was AWESOME! However, the bike was received with the rear tire bent. We called the company and they shipped another tire FREE. The same problem happened with the 2nd tire — Pacific Evolution Boys Mountain Bike was also bent. It was an additional charge from a local bike shop to adjust all the spokes and hand brakes to get this bike so it could be ridden.

Excellent bike, easy to assemble. The bike was delivered within a week even with free shipping. The package was slightly damaged, but no damage or missing parts inside. We were a little concerned about assembling ourselves based on some of the review comments, but the bike is delivered only partially disassembled. The only parts we had to assemble were the handle bar, the front wheel, two pedals, and the seat. If you have the right tools, the assembly is straight forward. My son loves the bike, especially because he wanted one with gears.

Not up to snuff. I bought 2 of these bikes for my twin boys. The shipping was great and they arrived unscathed, but one of the front frame nuts was missing…Off to the hardware store. My wife and I put the bikes together, but I had to adjust the brakes and the derailer on both bikes. After the boys rode the bikes on the first day, the chain kept getting stuck on 6th gear. I had to keep adjusting. Besides the components being of cheap quality, the frame and tires were fine.[...].

GMC Topkick. This bike is phenomenal, i enjoy riding GMC Topkick Dual-Suspension Mountain Bike AFTER i assembled, i do not reccomend this bike to people who are begginers to the world of Mountain Bikes. I found NO assembly instructions for this bike inside like many others. Luckily i have assembled bikes before. When i opened the bikes packagind it wasnt the best box,I believe it was handled poorly. When assembling the bike i noticed the Disc Brakes took ALOT of tweaking. My rear disc break was not properly fit for the bike, OR shipping bumped it and damaged the rear disc, causing it to bend and mechanical failure. I found myself NOT using the Rear Brakes anymore,it was rubbing on the caliper constatly making a noise and slowing me down. I decided to just take off the top and tie back the wire. I reccomend looking into a more exspensive shipping unless you want bent parts. Its a nice bike, but small things like that make the company look poor in the eyes. So i reccomend looking into an inch smaller Rear Disc Brake. A good bike that needs a little more than assembly. Hope my review helps Customers!!

Worth The Money…. I bought this bike because it had pretty good reviews…and honestly, at 200 lbs. I needed a bike just a little more heavy duty than what was available in a dept. store…When it got delivered, I was quite impressed with the overall build and features of the bike. With dual disc brakes (that work great), quick release hubs and seat post, heavy duty V-rims… shimano componants…it really is quite a nice bike for the price. I’ve seen many argue that you should go to a bike shop for a bike…well, I looked around, you can expect to pay between well over $1000. to around $7000. for a dual suspension bike. GET REAL…I only paid $5100. for a brand new Honda XR-650 (motorcycle)…I’ve ridden this bike many times now without any problems. Keep in mind, however, that most bikes will need to be “fine tuned” when put together (brake adjustment, derailleur adjustment)These are very simple to do…If you arent sure, go to YouTube…you can find how-to videos there. All in all, I would surely recommend this bike to a friend if you are looking for something just a little nicer than your average dept. store bike.

Great. This is a great bike.

However, the shipping dented the chain and it costed me 40 dollars to get it repaired/new one. I called amazon and they gave me a refund for the money i had spent in no time. I have to say, amazon customer support is great (at least off holiday season).
