And take it, he did! A cop working to entrap dirty, rotten mobsters finds out quickly just how soiled HE is in this filthy little romantic satire. Gary Oldman is the cop with his hand in everything . . . and up everything. Lena Olin is fabulous as the beautiful but evil temptress and mobster’s moll. But fear not! She’s no sweetheart to feel pity for. There is no mucking about in this story with shedding tears for the ruined virgin. If a woman can be a rapist, then look no further. This is a story of pure obsession, and a desire to possess without reason. Murder, torture, adultry, there are no rules. I became so tightly drawn in by these characters, that I forgot what the hell the cop was doing there to begin with! You’ll find no good-guys, either, try as you might. I have never cheered so hard for the bad ones to win as I have in this movie. Lena Olin is just so rotten you’ll look side-ways at your kids for the rest of your life. Gary Oldman, the upholder of the law, fumbles that particular ball non-stop, and he likes it! You will, too.

This DVD arrived in excellent shape and in a timely manner. I can honestly say that it has to rate as one of the best movies I’ve ever seen. I don’t think I got up once during the whole movie – it was like holding you on pins and needles.

The final film from the master Kubrick. An eerie detached exploration of erotic desire & obsession. The story an argument on fidelity with wife sends a doctor in NYC to check out the seedy Manhatten underground streets & into a variety of sexual encounters and situations. Tom Cruise plays the sexual frustrated know it all attitude doctor and I have to say he is not one of my favorites but he does pull this off quite well. Nicole Kidman plays his curious wife. He ends up at an exclusive secret upper-class orgy which could lead to dangerous consequences. The cinematography is dark and creepy in usual Kubrick fashion. The acting is incredible & the storyline is unique. The movie touches on the dark side of sexual desires of one man who thought he knew it all but realized his eyes were wide shut. One of my favorite Kubrick films worth viewing.

I was a Leif Garrett fan, that did not make this movie any better, I turned it off after 20 minutes, I could no longer stand the embaressment I felt for the guy for having done this movie.

This 80’s film is about a Russian immigrant former boxing hopeful who gets hooked up coaching a couple of young up and coming Brooklyn amateurs. A couple of other reviewers have used the word “gritty” to describe this flick. I agree. It is entertaining and the boxing aspects have a realistic feel to them. The Brooklyn/Coney Island environment also comes across.

This is really not a “message flick” (good), although the pointless anti-Semitism of the former USSR is portrayed. Interesting, Snipes’ character is Muslim (no doubt a takeoff from the old Cassius Clay – Mohammed Ali transformation), but interesting nonetheless as this was filmed in the era before today’s world relgio-political mess. The fact that his new-found trainer is a Jew is NOT an issue . . . for either of them. Refreshing, huh? The only message is that natural talent combined with hard work can pay off.

As you would expect from this subject, the characters work through various hurtles and interpersonal problems and the story builds toward a big fight. That fight was exciting and tense to watch, but I won’t say more.

My only criticism is the crummy editing. The action fight scenes were edited OK, but some of the other footage was jumpy and poorly timed.

Check out this old sleeper.

This is the best money I have ever spent! The battery lasts for days and it has every option possible and it looks big but its not! The smaller watches don’t do as many functions as this watch! It was shockingly very easy to use and I don’t know how I ever ran without it.

I really enjoyed the Postman. Having it on blu-ray just makes it that much better. I never saw the film in the theater and the dvd copy I’ve been watching just wasn’t cutting it anymore. Hollywood seems to be on the Post-Apocalyptic bandwagon this year, with the Road and 2012. The Postman, if released this year would not have been so panned by the critics. The movie has a great message about freedom and self determination. It also shows how an idea can grow bigger than a man.

The picture quality on the blu-ray is excellent and the sound quality is the best this movie has ever sounded. If you are on the fence, buy it. I have watched my dvd copy more than 7 times and plan on watching the blu-ray many times as well. To the people who say “the movie doesn’t match the book”, what movie has ever really matched the book?

In all of American history you will be hard-pressed to find a culture that is as colorful or as mysterious as that of the Cajun people. It would be an even more difficult task to find a film that captures that culture in such vivid detail.

With a brilliant mix of comedy, drama, mystery and romance, this movie deserves to take its place among the classics. Armand Assante gives a commanding performance in the title role, assuring that Belizaire will be remembered as a permanent and endearing character in American folklore.
